Reporting directly to the Senior Executive Director, Development for the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, the Director of Development is responsible for developing, coordinating and executing long- and short-term strategies to secure major gifts from individuals, alumni and other entities in support of the school's mission and strategic plan in his/her assigned region. In coordination with other members of the staff, the Director will strategically cultivate, solicit and steward major donors. This individual will help establish goals and objectives for the program, help prepare annual operating plans and help evaluate progress at appropriate intervals. The Director will work closely with the Dean, External Affairs department, volunteers, faculty, students and development staff and other colleagues school-wide and campus-wide. This individual will supervise a staff of stewardship officers, annual fund officers and alumni relations officers and will work with the Senior Executive Director, Development on campaign management. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 14 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred 1.Minimum of three to five years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. Required 2.Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity. Required 3.Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. Required 4.Strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the special and major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. Required 5.Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals. Required 6.Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs. Required 7.Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision. Required 8.Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA's fundraising goals and the specific priorities of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness. Required 9.Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports. Required 10.Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information. Required 11.Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events. Required 12.Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies. Required 13.Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed. Required 14.Bachelor's degree is preferred.
