Purdue University Fort Wayne invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean, who reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, administers the College, which consists of 12 departments, the Division of General Studies and six interdisciplinary programs. The College has more than 160 full-time faculty and offers 20 bachelor’s degree programs that include an additional 18 concentrations and specializations, eight disciplinary certificates and five research certificates, four master’s degree programs, and delivers more than 90,000 credit hours per year.


The College seeks a leader with a strong belief in the importance of a liberal arts education and a commitment to teaching, student achievement, research and creative endeavor, and building community and university relations. A record of teaching, research or creative endeavor, and service sufficient to qualify for appointment to the rank of full professor in one of the College’s departments is required. Additionally, candidates are expected to have a proven record of administration in higher education at or above the level of department chair; previous experience in external fund raising is preferred.


The College seeks a strong advocate who will work with faculty and staff in a cooperative spirit to define, and implement, the College’s goals and mission under the university’s new strategic plan. The successful candidate will provide leadership within a context of shared mission and faculty governance including open and collaborative communication within the College. The successful candidate will support teaching, service, research and creative endeavor, faculty and student development, alumni and community engagement, as well as gift development with the Office of Advancement.
