The Division of Agriculture is a state wide campus, with faculty based on University campuses, at Research and Extension Centers and in every Arkansas County. About the College/Department

The Poultry Science Department currently consists of approximately 120 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. Center faculty and staff offices are housed in the 112,000-square foot John W. Tyson Building on the U of A campus in Fayetteville. Also housed in the building are research laboratories, USDA offices with four scientists, a Central Analytical Laboratory, a Cell Isolation and Characterization Laboratory, Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, test kitchen, auditorium, computer laboratory, compressed interactive video room and classrooms. Additional facilities operated by the Center include a 10,000-square-foot pilot processing plant, a research farm including hatchery, genetics unit, pullet rearing facility, battery brooder units, caged layer house, broiler breeder, broiler and turkey houses, the Applied Broiler Research Unit with four full-sized broiler houses equipped with computerized environmental control and data collection systems capable of commercial-type production research, a feed mill with the ability to make research – specific diets from small bagged quantities to bulk capacity, and the 10,000-square-foot J.K. Skeeles Poultry Health Laboratory.

Provide exemplary leadership in planning, integrating, and implementing research, extension, and teaching programs. An essential component of the position of Center Director is to provide leadership and support in collaboration with poultry industry leaders, and multidisciplinary teams including scientists from Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, Biological Sciences, Cellular and Molecular Biology Program, Chemistry/Biochemistry and USDA-ARS. Duties will also include administrative and fiscal leadership for the Center and Department personnel, programs and physical resources; leadership in goals, program planning, faculty development, and pursuit of extramural funding; coordination with other university programs, professional and governmental agencies, and industry groups; and development of an understanding of agriculture in Arkansas and the evolving research priorities in Poultry Sciences. As Head of the Department, the incumbent will provide administrative leadership to the teaching programs including instruction, student recruitment, retention and liaison with students and alumni. The Director/Head will also serve as part of the broader administrative team of the Division of Agriculture and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D., D.V.M., or equivalent in poultry science or a closely related discipline and an outstanding record of professional accomplishments. The candidate’s record must demonstrate the leadership skills or potential necessary to administer a program including resident instruction, research, extension, and service, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse clientele and stakeholders. Required experiences and attributes include demonstrated effective and dynamic leadership, administrative capabilities, effective communication skills, ability to attract extramural funding, interest in providing multi-disciplinary leadership and coordination of diverse research interests, interest in and ability to recruit undergraduate and graduate students, and a commitment to fostering research and academic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in the Land Grant University System is desirable, as is experience in a unit with multiple missions such as teaching, research and extension.
