Sr Academic Advisor
The College of PublicHealth (CPH) at Temple University is one of the largest colleges of its kind inthe country, consisting of the departments of Communication Sciences andDisorders, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Services Administration and Policy,Kinesiology, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Sciences, Social andBehavioral Sciences, and the School of Social Work.
The Sr. Academic Advisorin the School of Social Work will provide guidance to graduate students in theMaster of Social Work (MSW) degree program. The Sr. Academic Advisor isresponsible for preparing, assessing and maintaining records of studentprogress and advancement toward degree completion. Specific responsibilitiesinclude: meeting with students to discuss academic and professional goals andreferring them to additional resources as necessary. This includes answeringquestions regarding MSW program requirements, registration, education in fieldwork settings, change in educational plans, petitions for grievances and gradeconcerns, academic progress and MSW program, School, College, and Universitypolicies; helping to acquire professional references and records access inconjunction with student inquiries; assisting with graduation reviews andclearances; responding to academic administration and faculty requests forassistance with student related matters; preparing assessment reports,maintaining student related records files and databases; reviewing, approvingand processing curriculum related actions with appropriate reviews andapprovals; interacting with other academic units in conjunction with jointprograms; scheduling and coordinating events and trainings; and providing inputinto academic units planning efforts. The Sr. Academic Advisor will performother duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree insocial work or related field and four or more years of relevant experience. Atleast 3 years’ advising experience in a higher education academic setting. Demonstratedleadership/project management experience. Training design and/or deliveryexposure. An equivalentcombination of education and experience may be considered
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to travelbetween University campuses as needed.
*Ability to work someevening and Saturday hours as needed.
*Demonstrated ability toeffectively interact with individuals from diverse cultures.
*Ability to operate allstandard office equipment and software including MS Office.
*Excellent verbal,written and interpersonal communications skills.
*Ability to work bothindividually and in teams.
*Experience advisinggraduate students, including online students, in Social Work or related fields.
*Recruitment andguidance of graduate students in the application process for MSW degrees.
*Technical abilitiesincluding BANNER, Microsoft Office, and other technology associated withinternet communication, social networking, and web based information.
