General Summary

The Department of Psychology at Eastern Michigan University announces an opening for a Full-Time Lecturer position to begin Fall 2019.

The successful applicant will receive a yearly contract (renewable on a year-by-year basis for 2 years, and then a three-year basis thereafter). For the lab coordination, the faculty member will meet with 16-19 graduate students each week to review the lab for the week, offer teaching suggestions, and trouble shoot classroom issues. The coordinator also teaches a lab section to understand the concepts and difficulties in teaching labs over the semester. The coordinator also handles student complaints and classroom management issues.

The Psychology Department has MS programs in General Clinical, Clinical-Behavioral, and Experimental psychology, an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program, and approximately 900 undergraduate majors. The EMU campus is located in Ypsilanti, five miles from downtown Ann Arbor and 35 miles west of Detroit, MI.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teach contractual load of courses as assigned by the department or school.

Assign and submit grades in accordance with established University schedules.

Keep posted office hours during the week which are scheduled at times most beneficial to students.

Provide enrollment data and such other information as corrected class lists, etc. as may be required by the University.

Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective disciplines.

Confer periodically with the Department Head/School Director on curriculum and instruction issues.

Provide other support service to the department, college and/or university, if applicable.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Candidates must have their PhD in psychology at the start of hire (specialization open). Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong teaching skills (particularly in general psychology), and must show evidence of the ability to coordinate graduate student instructors who teach lab sections that accompany the general psychology offering.
