Job Description

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences oversees five academic departments and works closely with faculty and staff, providing essential and compelling leadership that supports the overall mission of the institution through strong academic programs. The SAS provides the majority of the core curriculum, substantially contributing to the development of students’ critical thinking, communication, and research skills.

The Dean of SAS works in close partnership with the three other academic deans, the executive director of the four other instructional sites, and the provost to whom they report. The deans and the provost set ABAC's strategic academic priorities, assuring that these priorities are fully aligned with the institution’s mission and strategy and are supportive of the college’s auxiliary divisions' goals and objectives. The five department heads within the SAS report to the Dean. The four instructional sites outside of Tifton are spread across a broad section of Southwest Georgia.

The SAS Dean is responsible for coordinating administrative decisions within the school, collaborating with the department heads and faculty. A large portion of time is devoted to the budget process and allocation of resources to the departments, which are further managed by the department heads and faculty. Furthermore, the Dean is responsible for coordinating with department heads and faculty to create, support, and utilize working relationships with industry and alumni to foster the recruitment, professional development, and placement of students. The Dean coordinates the acquisition of public and private support for programs through grant funding, in-kind donations, financial donations, partnerships with industry, cooperatives with governmental agencies, as well as other means of resource development.

The successful candidate will bring a strong record of scholarship, demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, have management and operational experience, and possess interpersonal and relationship-building skills to help ABAC realize its strategic goals. The position of Dean requires a combination of formal academic training, experience, leadership, and management to warrant an appointment at the professor level. A terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to the School of Arts and Sciences is required. The position is a twelve-month, tenure-track position.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS WILL BEGIN IMMEDIATELY AND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE POSITION IS FILLED.

To apply: Application materials required include a cover letter; an ABAC faculty application; a current CV; the names, addresses, email, and telephone numbers for three professional references; and unofficial transcripts from all academic institutions attended.

All materials are accepted at abac.hiretouch.com. Finalists will have to submit official transcripts, which can be sent via secure transmission from the candidate’s higher education institution.
