Position Department: Media ArtsPosition School: School of Communications and Information SystemsOverview:The Media Arts Department, in conjunction with the Center for Documentary Production and Study, at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is currently seeking candidates for a 16-week residency in documentary filmmaking for the Fall 2019 semester.Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching one documentary production class, work on their own documentary project(s), and be an active member of the University community, including participation in activities such as screenings, lectures, jurying student competition work, and engaging with students and faculty. While in residence, the visiting documentary filmmaker is expected to meet appropriate goals set for the development of their own documentary project(s) with support from the Media Arts Department and Academic Media Center. The support the program provides to the successful candidate includes:
    Access to production and post-production equipment, administrative staff, student assistance, screening facilities, and access to our fully equipped production studios.Monthly stipend payment during the residency (four months).On-campus housing.Eligibility for medical coverage through the University.Round trip airfare in coach to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The program is fully funded by the University. The University is located in a scenic western suburban neighborhood and a 25-minute drive from downtown Pittsburgh. The position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background screening, including degree verification. A valid driver’s license is required. International candidates must be eligible for a J-1 visa. The University will assist with applying for a J-1 visa and appropriate medical health insurance if the final candidate is an international candidate. The successful candidate will be housed on campus in the Snee-Reinhardt House for Media Arts which is a three-story facility with a spacious private studio apartment with a kitchen on the upper level; multipurpose work area on the main floor; and a high-definition 20-seat screening facility on the lower level. The visiting filmmaker is responsible for the production and any related costs of their film work, meals, transportation and apartment maintenance and cleaning during the residency. Will need to drive or have reliable transportation to travel on behalf of the University. RMU offers faculty members an environment where teaching, research and service are supported and valued.     Documentary film production experience is required, including completed film(s) screened to the public at juried film or other juried media festivals, and/or on national or international television, and/or by major OTT media service(s).Terminal degree preferred.Teaching experience preferred.Inspiring, energetic, and experienced documentarian who, understands the challenges of production within an educational environment; is passionate about engaging students in documentary production and sharing their documentary expertise with students; and possesses the drive and vision to see their own work while working in a collaborative environment.Proficiency in English.
