The University of Tennessee is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Chancellor of the Knoxville campus. The Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer for the 29,000 student campus, a land-grant Carnegie R1 doctoral university with highest research activity and the flagship campus of the UT System.

Reporting to the President, this position is fully responsible for the administration and management of the campus and aggressively promotes continued development of its academic programs, research productivity, and national reputation of excellence, built upon a commitment to access and diversity in support of the University’s efforts to become a Top 25 public research university.

The Chancellor is expected to provide visionary leadership and execute strategic initiatives to enhance the standing of the University and to provide advocacy and support for the generation of new knowledge including a focus on student success and growing talent production through increased enrollment and graduation rates. The Chancellor should also strengthen high quality programs of instruction and learning, resource enhancement and accountability, and shared governance. The Chancellor will also create a culture of diversity, engagement and belonging in which all students feel safe, respected and can succeed.

In coordination with the UT System, the Chancellor establishes and maintains productive relationships on behalf of the University with state government, the Tennessee congressional delegation and federal agencies. The Chancellor also fosters positive interactions with and support from alumni, benefactors and the community at large. The Chancellor plays a key role in the UT System management, through UT-Battelle, of nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
