Job Description

The Department of Classics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for two full-time lecturers, each with distinct and specific specialties.

One of the two available positions is for a specialist in the Greek world, who will teach intensive first-year Greek and intermediate Greek. In addition, departmental curricular needs may include courses in Classical Mythology, Greek Religion, or another related topic.

The second of the two available positions is for a specialist in the Roman world, who will teach intermediate Latin and an advanced Latin prose course. In addition, departmental curricular needs may include courses in Classical Mythology, Roman Material Culture and Archaeology, Roman Civilization, or another related topic.

The teaching load for both positions is three courses per semester. Lecturers are also expected to play a full and active role in the work of the department and to contribute to departmental service by, for example, serving on departmental committees and advising students.

These are full-time (9-month) non-tenure-track positions beginning September 1, 2019 and are non-renewable. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Requirements

A Ph.D. in Classics or equivalent is required prior to the beginning of the appointment.
