Vice Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education
Marist College / Health Quest seeks a Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (“UME”) to join its leadership team in developing and implementing the new MD curriculum of the newly announced Marist / Health Quest School of Medicine (“SOMed”). Reporting to the Dean for the School of Medicine, the successful candidate will ideally bring a proven record of leadership in academic and/or clinical medicine; national recognition of achievement in research, clinical, educational, and/or public health pursuits; a knowledge of current and best practices to transform medical education using innovative curricula, technologies, and teaching/learning methodologies, specifically in the area of artificial intelligence (AI), and experience with accreditation processes and standards for medical education.
The successful candidate will possess an MD, MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent degree with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in undergraduate medical education in addition to outstanding teaching skills and exceptional evaluations from medical students. A strong record of nationally recognized achievement in research, clinical, educational, and/or public health is essential. The ideal candidate must exemplify an entrepreneurial and proactive spirit with a proven comfort level in a start-up environment as well as a demonstrated commitment to technological innovation within medical education. S/he must have demonstrated leadership in academic and clinical medicine in an academic center, or similarly complex institution, preferably leading a large program or having served as assistant or associate dean equivalent. The Vice Dean must possess knowledge of current efforts and best practices to transform medical education using innovative curricula, technologies, and teaching/learning methodologies with specific experience in student-centered pedagogies and technology-enhanced techniques. The candidate needs to have experience developing and utilizing technology-based instruction, small group education methodology, and assessment/evaluation. Advanced verbal and written skills with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels throughout the two organizations, including board members, executives, faculty, and staff members is required.
Some of the key features of this integral role encompass the following:
- Supervise all operations of the School of Medicine under the direction of the SOMed Dean;
- Supervise operations of the Office of Medical Education and collaborate with SOMed planning teams to establish the faculty handbook, academic and student policies, etc. in accordance with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards;
- Under the direction of the SOMed Dean, lead the development and implementation of the new MD curriculum, maintaining consistency with LCME accreditation standards, and ensuring that there is a process in place for continuous improvement;
- Supervise the Director of Compliance and Accreditation to attain and maintain accreditation;
- Responsible for evaluation of faculty and providing professional development;
- Establishes and fosters an environment of scholarship;
- Other duties as assigned.

The Marist/Health Quest School of Medicine aspires to become a nationally recognized leader in technology-enabled medical education, discovery and care delivery. The School of Medicine will also partner with leading life science and technology organizations to help educate, attract and retain diverse professionals to serve the healthcare needs of the Hudson Valley, all while enhancing the reputations of Marist and Health Quest as leaders in the fields of education and healthcare. The School of Medicine will seek approvals from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the New York State Education Department and Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Once fully staffed and accredited (by July 2021), the School of Medicine is expected to begin actively recruiting students, with the first class of 60 matriculating in July 2022. By 2028, that class size projects to increase to 120.
