The Marist / Health Quest School of Medicine (“SOMed”) seeks a Senior Instructional Designer to join its team in a period of dramatic expansion and development.  The Senior Instructional Designer at the School of Medicine (“SOMed”) will be central to realizing the newly announced school’s vision of becoming a nationally recognized leader in technology-enabled medical education, discovery, and care delivery transformation.  This person will collaborate with medical school faculty and administration to develop online medical education modules and technology-enhanced blended learning experiences for the undergraduate medical education program (UME), taking an innovative approach to UME curriculum design.  This person functions in all phases of instructional technology design and implementation, including the analysis of user needs, technology and curriculum design, review, programming, and implementation of information systems projects which relate to the educational mission of the SOMed.  The Senior Instructional Designer will also serve in a supervisory role and lead instructional support for the SOMed. 

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field with a minimum of five (5) years related experience in higher education-preferably academic medicine or academic healthcare field required.  The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated proficiency with instructional design theory, models, best practices and tools such as: learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, and prototypes with an expertise in leading capabilities of learning management systems, including artificial intelligence, adaptive learning, and virtual learning.  He/she needs knowledge and experience in educational/instructional technology software, Web conferencing tools, multimedia development software and Quality Matters.  Familiarity with curriculum-focused accreditation standards of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) as well as healthcare education concepts and terminology strongly preferred.          

Position Details

Some of the key essential responsibilities for this role are described as the following:

1. Assisting in the promotion, integration and use of technology with digital education support services and research
2. Deliver effective pedagogy and instructional design in digital learning;
3. Develop knowledge on content and course management systems to support digital learning;
4. Provide the “best in class” support for Marist/Health Quest School of Medicine faculty using digital tools to teach;
5. Develop instructional and reference materials;
6. Stay abreast of new technologies and strategies related to instructional design and technologies and provides analysis and recommendations for improvement consistent with the school’s mission and academic goals.
7. Coordinate and lead specific projects in consultation with the Director of Digital Education
8. In collaboration with the Directors of Planning and Accreditation and Faculty Development, organize, develop, and delver workshops and information sessions for faculty to develop their digital skills and expose them to innovative uses of technology in their operating environment;
9. Coordinate and create time-sensitive communications with faculty in the form of email responses to individual questions, mass email announcements, posts to online media, and other media as appropriate;
10. Provide reports that quantify and qualify workshops, online learning content, and tools, to assist in determining effectiveness;
11. Develop and manage relationships with faculty to implement improvements to online courses and processes based on instructional design “best practices”
12. Consult regularly with faculty, staff, and students on their use of technology; solicit feedback, analyze and recommend improvements;
13. Work directly with faculty of all disciplines on technology enhanced and supported activities;
14. Provide creative and appropriate solutions based on faculty members’ specific instructional goals.

Once fully staffed and accredited (by July 2021), the School of Medicine is expected to begin actively recruiting students, with the first class of 60 matriculating in July 2022. By 2028, that class size projects to increase to 120.
