Position Summary

Senior Program Manager for Education and Training provides leadership and strategic direction in key CNS nonproliferation education, outreach, and professional development activities. Under the supervision of the Director at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Senior Program Manager for Education and Training leads and manages several educational, training, and outreach projects in the Monterey office, including fundraising; develops strategic vision, oversees the implementation of these projects, and provides instruction and mentorship to participants in educational and professional developments programs. This is a full-time staff position.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

•Develops and writes grant proposals and leads fundraising efforts for Monterey-based CNS educational, outreach, and professional development projects and programs.
•Sets priorities and develops strategic vision and direction of educational, outreach, and professional development programs.
•Serves as a principle investigator for existing Monterey-based education and training program and activities.
•Oversees the recruitment for Monterey-based educational, outreach, and professional developments projects and programs.
•Designs and oversees the implementation of the curriculum for educational, outreach, and professional developments projects and programs.
•Provides instruction and mentorship to participants in professional development and internship programs and lectures for educational and outreach projects and programs, including the Visiting Fellows Program.
•Supervises junior staff and graduate research assistants.
•Oversees CNS internships at International Nonproliferation Organizations.

General Responsibilities

• Conducts research and writes on WMD nonproliferation topics.
•Promotes CNS mission and MIIS academic programs at international and national conferences and other events.
•Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

•Qualified candidates will have an MA in international policy studies, political science, or related field or equivalent professional experience in multilateral affairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Effective interpersonal skills
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Excellent project management skills
•Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in developing, organizing, and overseeing the implementation of educational, outreach, and professional development programs
•Knowledge of key nonproliferation concepts and issues
•Familiarity with multilateral diplomacy and international organizations
•Ability to work under tight and frequent deadlines and occasional irregular hours
•Ability to travel internationally

Experience

•Demonstrated experience in writing grant proposals is required.
•At least three years of prior experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate or graduate students as well as practitioners is required.
•Prior work at international governmental and nongovernmental organizations and working with multinational and multicultural staff and program participants is desirable.

Physical Demands

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey maintains a smoke-free workplace and complies with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act. The position requires moderate-to-heavy physical exertion.

Essential job functions require ability to sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, climb, push/pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Also requires fine dexterity and ability to grasp, i.e. for writing and word processing/data entry.
