_Academic Coordinator & Data Specialist 

 

The Academic Coordinator and Data Specialist for participants in the Student Support Services program is responsible for developing and providing direct services to students in support of their academic achievement, persistence, graduation and transfer, as well as, data entry of services and keeping up-to-date records of TRIO participants.  The position provides academic support services to students selected to participate in the grant funded Student Support Services program which targets students who are low income, first generation or disabled. 

 This grant funded position is based at Columbia campus but requires travel to other sites and centers.

Essential Functions:
1. Assist in participant recruitment and selection.
2. Coordinate and supervise tutors employed to support TRIO SSS students.
3. Assist TRiO SSS students with postsecondary course selection and coordinate study skills workshops on topics such as time management, organization, note taking, and test taking strategies.
4. Monitor TRiO SSS students’ persistence and success and coordinate or provide individual and group tutoring on an as needed basis.
5. Cooperates with faculty, advisors, financial aid office, career services, university center and other offices that provide support to participant success.
6. Assist with Summer Bridge Program and/or other programs that contribute to participant success. 
7. Collect participant data that support evaluation of the program.
8. Setup and maintain program files, process forms, maintain signature log, files for participant information, special projects, etc.
9. Maintain confidentiality of information. 
10. Maintain accurate records of student participation in services and activities.
11. Keep students informed of events and growth opportunities on and off campus.
12. Promotes relationships with transfer institutions, and informs advisors as changes occur.

Supplemental Functions:
1. Serves on college committees.
2. Participates in other college activities
3. Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Requirements of the Position

 

Education, Training and Experience Required:

1. Baccalaureate degree in counseling, social work, education or related field.
2. Academic advising or tutoring experience preferred.
3. Student services and/or teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
5. Knowledge, understanding and/or experience with the needs of disadvantaged college students.
6. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and experience with other data entry programs
7. Strong oral and written communication skills.
8. Ability to work with and communicate effectively with diverse populations

 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

1. Ability to work without direct supervision.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of personal counseling, career counseling, and testing; conflict-resolution and referral skills.
3. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
4. Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, students, and community members.
5. Ability to work well as an effective team member.
6. Computer, office management, and organizational skills.


Working Conditions:

1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as evening and weekend work is required.
2. Based at Columbia but requires travel to other sites and centers.
3. Extensive use of personal computer.
