Nationally recognized as one of the most outstanding undergraduate institutions, Miami University is seeking a newly created Director of Operations & Communications for the Center for Career Exploration and Success (CCES).The Director will be responsible for providing strategic planning and management of all facets of operations, events, assessment, data analysis, and marketing/communication efforts within the Career Center.The position will lead and implement initiatives that are industry-leading best practices, institute data-driven decision making, and work to provide greater visibility of the Center with current students, internal constituents, and external audiences. The successful candidate will ensure that the department uses effective and efficient approaches in operational and marketing/communication initiatives and lead the assessment of departmental activities while overseeing a staff of 4-6.


This position will serve as a member of the CCES Leadership Team and a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Success Extended Leadership Team and will partner with internal stakeholders, including academic divisions, University Communications and Marketing (UCM), and Enrollment Marketing and Communications to develop the overall operational, event, and corresponding marketing/communication strategies for the Center. CCES is a growing office with an ambitious strategic plan designed to situate students for lifelong professional success. Our efforts in collaboration with Miami’s Career Community, extend beyond the typical career center offerings as we strive to be the most immersive and comprehensive 4-year career development experience in the nation. Duties/Physical Demands:
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President (AVP), the Director leads CCES Operations, Events, Assessment, and Marketing/Communication team by providing vision, guidance and supervision in the strategic planning and development of operational initiatives, event management, and marketing/communication efforts. Hire, train, lead, and develop Operations and Communications staff.

  • Working with CCES Career Development and Employer Relations Teams, develop innovative and relevant career exploration and student success programming schedule in keeping with industry best practices and Miami University student needs. Organize programming schedule and link to marketing/communication timetable and strategic plan including efforts to targeted student populations where data indicates additional outreach and support is helpful. Oversee marketing, communication, and publications to ensure efforts are in keeping with Miami University brand standards. Ensure marketing, communications, and publications are effective, error-free, and inclusive. Manage shortand long-term goals while managing day-to-day needs.

  • Oversee day-to-day functions of CCES operations including assessment of programs and services, cyclical calendar, and software. Develop and implement assessment plan including event reports, surveys, and focus groups. Create and monitor high-level CCES cyclical calendar and ensure deadlines are met. Oversee usage, maintenance, and impact of CCES software programs (e.g. GoinGlobal, FOCUS2, etc.). renewals, cancellations, and new software for CCES use.

  • Drive the utilization of data to inform the development, maintenance, and growth of strategic initiatives throughout the Career Center. Establish on-going assessment and development of new initiatives that ensure effective operations, events, and marketing/communication efforts.

  • As part of the Center for Career Exploration & Success senior leadership team, this position is a key advisor to the AVP.

  • Stay current with trends and developments, issues and policies and best practices related to career services? examine the strategies and communications of peer, competitor, and aspirant institutions.

  • Assist in the coordination of office-wide special events, programs, workshops, and career fairs, and other events as needed. Represents the university at relevant events with external constituents, professional associations, and relevant career and workforce development initiatives. Successfully manages multiple projects with complex needs and various timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Minimum Three years of experience supervising teams or the work of others and demonstrated collaborative leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and proven ability to inspire and build relationships of confidence and trust
  • Demonstration of leading strategic planning and fostering innovative organizational change
  • Experience with leveraging data, technology, and CRM systems to manage and execute goals
  • Understanding of effective communication and marketing strategies including print, digital and social media
  • Proven success in incorporating efficient business processes to increase productivity and fiscal responsibility
  • Experience in assessing events, services, and other resources and ability to develop assessment plans
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years related experience.
