Job Details

Duties: The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center is seeking a data manager to contribute to a variety of projects including studies of critical care outcomes, end-of-life decision making, and palliative care interventions.
This individual will be responsible for designing and maintaining study databases, assuring data quality, maintaining accurate documentation, generating analytic data sets from databases and raw data extracts, and coordinating with various project teams on matters related to data collection, extraction and analysis.

This position requires sophisticated programming skills in R or SAS and in SQL; familiarity with Stata would also be beneficial. The data manager will work closely with project managers and statistical analysts, translating in-depth project knowledge into the development of data checking and processing plans, database queries, and data collection strategies. Experience working with electronic health record data or other large, complex relational databases is essential. In order to be successful, the candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and a good understanding of research design considerations.

The Data Manager will work with the other members of the PAIR Center's Data Core to develop and uphold best practices for programming and documentation to enable the Center to consistently and efficiently produce high-quality output. This individual will also be a point of contact for questions regarding handling data in compliance with the requirements of the University as well as data providers and funding organizations.

Qualifications: * A Bachelor's degree and at least two years of data or systems management with progressively more complex projects in a healthcare setting (particularly RCTs) or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
* Working knowledge of relational database design, query, and reporting
* Experience in verifying, documenting, and cleaning large data files
* Familiarity with data standards and coding conventions
* Ability to work both independently and with a team
* Ability to prioritize tasks
* Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Must have strong organizational skills and pay close attention to details
* Proficiency in SQL and R or SAS; additional skills in STATA are a plus
* Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
