Job Details

Duties: We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to help establish a new translational immunology laboratory at the School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) of the University of Pennsylvania, continuing the work of a well-established principal investigator who has relocated to Penn Vet.

The incumbent will work within the Immune Regulation Laboratory, providing support as a laboratory manager for a number of outstanding projects examining the cellular and molecular phenotype, pathogenic role, and functional interactions of regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells in canine cancer and autoimmune disease. We propose to extend our previous research in the area of peripheral tolerance in canine cancer and canine autoimmune disease, with the aim of advancing it into the clinical arena to develop novel immune therapies. Our emphasis is on One Health, One Medicine, using spontaneous canine disease for both its veterinary importance and its unique ability to model equivalent human diseases. Our work will also require the use of murine models.

This exciting position would suit a person with a science degree and a passion for immunological research and a keen drive to generate publishable data. Enjoy the pace of a rapidly advancing and competitive field that incorporates regulatory cell and cancer / autoimmune disease biology, while working in a team-centered, supportive and friendly laboratory within an excellent research institution, based in one of America's most vibrant, exciting metropolitan hubs. In addition, our laboratory actively participates in the Immunology Graduate Group (http://www.med.upenn.edu/immun/) and the Institute for Immunology (http://www.med.upenn.edu/ifi/) of the University of Pennsylvania.

Working schedule may include evening and weekends as needed, in order to receive clinical samples for immunophenotyping and research purposes.

Qualifications: Bachelor's in a biological or biomedical science with a component of immunology and at least 3 to 5 years post-degree directly related research experience. Minimum GPA of 3.5 preferred. Master's degree preferred.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven individual who has experience and skills in protein analysis (multicolor flow cytometry, Western blot, immunohistochemistry / immunofluorescence, ELISA), primary cell culture, molecular biology (cloning, mutagenesis, transcriptional analysis, isolation of mRNA and its analysis, plasmid and lentivirus preparation and gene transfer), and ideally animal work.

Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data. Strong communication and organizational skills, a detail-oriented mind-set, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative setting.

Applications must include:
1. A Curriculum Vitae, including publications
2. An official transcript from the registrar or University official that you have received your Bachelor's or Master's degree and completed all degree requirements
3. Cover letter to include research interests and career goals of no more than 600 words
4. The names and contact details of four academic references
