Job Description Summary:
Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan's eastern shore is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach Philosophy.

Courses may be day or evening at the Dowagiac or Niles campus.

The position is to teach freshman and sophomore level courses including Introduction to Philosophical Thought, Introduction to Ethics, and possibly other introductory philosophy courses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Teach courses consisting of 3 hours of lecture per week
-Be able to work comfortably with a diverse student population, including dual-enrolled high school students, traditional college students, and nontraditional college students.
-Utilize a variety of student engagement strategies in the classroom to ensure active student participation.
-Be accessible to students
-Grade assignments and respond to student inquiries
-Provide timely feedback to students' questions and concerns
-Become familiar with rules, regulations, administrative practices, guidelines and policies of the College

Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in subject matter with previous teaching experience
OR
a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties of this position

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous community college teaching experience.

Other Information:
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.
