Position Summary

Under the direction of the Nursing Office and/or Lab Instructional Assistant; the temporary Laboratory Technical Support Assistant (LTSA)worker may be assigned to the Nursing office, Computer lab, Skills lab, one of the Simulation labs or to a specific faculty team member; depending on the needs of the particular day. This exciting position gives the LTSA worker an introduction to a variety of tasks, exposure to office and medical environments and experience in medical simulation.

Assignment Responsibilities

General office/clerical duties such as:
● Assist with building / populating chart forms.
● Create or modify documents in MS Word and Excel.
● Form creation.
● Maintain Instructional Supplies.
● Assist with inventory management.
● Data entry.
● Report collection and compilation.
●Sorting and Filing; stuffing envelopes; copies; phone calls;
post Signs.

Technical Support Labs:
● Insure students utilize the login computer.
● Troubleshoot basic computer usage problems and report to appropriate authority.
● Troubleshoot and provide minor repairs to simulation lab equipment as appropriate.

Simulation Lab Support:
● Provide lab or simulation set up per instructions.
● Provide simulation support including operation of patient simulators.
● Provide with post simulation cleanup (clean up is associated with cleaning the simulator and the rooms after the simulation or lab session; resetting the simulators electronically, and putting the rooms, simulators, and supplies back in order).
● Moulage (applying make up and props to demonstrate medically relevant signs and symptoms).
● Manage recovery of reusable lab supplies.
● Stock demo “medication” bins (using a check list) an other pertinent patient centered supplies.
● Repack supply kits; organize Lab kits (under direction of IA or using a checklist); restock supplies.
● Bed making; laundry.
● Assist with lab organization.
● Light cleaning duties such as dusting/wiping keyboards, computer screens, surface areas, etc.
● Maintain safe environment.
● Insure students abide by laboratory policy.
● Errands (on campus).
●Other duties as assigned.

Additional Supportive Duties may include:
● Test Proctoring; computerized or paper based.
● Student Support.
● Training student help.
● May be assigned to faculty to provide assistance during classes or lab sessions.
● Voice patient(s) during scenarios or act as patient family member during scenarios (under direction of IA or Faculty).
Skills In:
● Customer service.
● Ability to alphabetize; filing.
● Follow directions (verbal, or written).
● Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
● Ability to direct others to perform simple to moderate tasks.
● Attention to detail.
● Familiarity and proficiency working with technology (Computers, cameras, tablets, etc.).
● Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Department uses MS office suite: specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.

EXPERIENCE: Any combination of experience that would provide preparation for a prospective employee to complete the required duties. One year experience in an educational lab environment or tutor experience preferred.

EDUCATION: A degree preferred in allied health, technology or office administration; or 60 semester units (90 quarter units) college level education.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 15 units are equal to six months of education; 30 units are equal to one year of education.)
