The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Children’s Hospital has a unique educational and clinical care opportunity for a Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrician.
We are actively working to increase access to developmental, behavioral health and mental health care in our primary care clinic. As part of that process, we have created a faculty position that will include two types of clinical time. Some clinical time will be spent precepting residents in general pediatrics and well child care in the residency continuity clinic. Precepting generally includes working with 3-4 residents in an innovative, dynamic academic practice setting. Separately, this faculty member will spend part of their clinical time providing D/B subspecialty consultative care. Some of these clinics will also include either students or residents on the D/B rotation and the faculty person will be able to assume a leadership role in resident D/B education. Finally, one day per week will be spent with the special infant care clinic, providing developmental expertise for high risk infants.
UNC has tremendous institutional resources in place related to this role including the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, which is the highest funded autism research center in the country, a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program, and the TEACCH program.
Applicants should be board certified or eligibility in both Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and General Pediatrics. Applicants from under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
The position will be located in the General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine division, which is the largest division in the Department of Pediatrics and includes outpatient care, hospital medicine, newborn care, and other affiliated specialty services. Additionally, the division employs psychologists, social workers, and has a contract with a child psychiatrist to support mental health evaluations. The division has a nationally-known and productive research program and a long record of teaching excellence. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beach within a day drive.
