DEPARTMENT: Division of Brand Identity and University Relations
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Brand Identity and University Relations
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Director of Alumni Relations develops and implements comprehensive engagement programs designed to provide meaningful opportunities to enhance the loyalty, dedication and support of Kentucky State University alumni.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Executive Director of Alumni Relations will coordinate the development, implementation and execution of new and existing alumni and student events, programs and services designed to foster a lifelong connection between alumni and Kentucky State University.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Create opportunities for alumni to access the resources of the University in ways that enrich their personal lives and professional careers
• Develop a solid understanding of the University’s alumni community, their interests, views and desires for connection with Kentucky State University
• Maintain regular communication with alumni via direct contact, email blasts, alumni webpages and print publications
• Coordinate the logistical management of alumni and student events, programs and services that strengthen the alumni-to-university, alumni-to-alumni, and alumni-to-student networks
• Evaluate, recommend and develop new and expanded programming
• Develop cooperative and collaborative relationships with campus units to develop or enhance initiatives consistent with goals
• Assist in planning and execution of Homecoming, Alumni Weekend, Reunions and other campus events
• Cultivate a national and international network of alumni volunteers
• Manage program budgets
• Monitor progress of programs against planned outcomes
• Represent the alumni office as needed at alumni events
• Plan and carry out strategies to strengthen engagement of recent graduates
• Provide vision and content for the Office of Alumni Relations webpages
• Establish and keep up-to-date an alumni directory and digital database
• Manage alumni contacts in Razoredge
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years of leadership experience in alumni relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
• Must be familiar with the University’s programs and key initiatives to share with various audiences
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
• Ability to work collaboratively with various constituency groups, volunteers and campus units
• Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evening and weekends
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
• Strong presentation skills and/or demonstrated training experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to use broader range of technology, systems and packages
• Experience recruiting, organizing and motivating teams of volunteers
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs
• Ability to work with limited direction and supervision
• Ability to develop budget and track financial information
• Ability to handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Provide exemplary customer service
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to continuously stand or walk
• Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and life frequently
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
