Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.Description:The Assistant Director, Residential Operations will aid and support the professional, graduate, and undergraduate staff and serve in the absence of the Director of Residential Operations; assist in tracking all maintenance requests/concerns in the residence halls through an online work order system that is managed by the Office of Facilities and Operations; serve as a point person regarding all outside vendor contracts such as but not exclusive to laundry, bin rentals, appliances, student micro-fridge rental, and furniture; and work with Procurement and Purchasing to ensure timely submission and payment of all purchases.

The Assistant Director oversees the following processes:

• Select, supervise and train student workers including an hourly graduate staff member
•Review, track and coordinate work orders/maintenance requests in the residence halls
•Manage residence hall improvement projects
•Management of health & safety inspections and appeals
•Management of housing extension requests
•Manage inventory for residence hall storage rooms
•Responsible for reconciling all health and safety fines and student damage billing
•Manage, update, and review opening and closing guidelines for the residence halls
•Review and respond to facility/work order concerns sent to the ResLife email box
•Manage oversight of master key and residence hall key controls for the Office of Residence Life
•Perform training sessions for resident director and resident assistant staff
•Provide reports to the Director of Operations and the Senior Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life regarding key processes with financial implications.
•Early arrival and move in coordination when necessary

This position works closely with Student Financial Services to ensure proper release of student accounts after verifying all damage billing in banner at the end of each academic semester. The Assistant Director is also responsible for communication between the Office of Residence Life and students on matters relating to work orders submitted, painting schedules, fire safety checks, health and safety fine appeals, and all other concerns brought to their attention regarding facilities operations.

As a member of the senior leadership team within the Office of Residence Life, the Assistant Director works collaboratively with other senior staff members on various projects. In addition, this individual will work with various other offices across the Division of Student Affairs. This includes but is not limited to: Office of Student Leadership & Engagement, Student Access Services, Parent & Family Programs, Hofstra Card Services, Conference Services and Campus Recreation. This individual will be required to interact with parents and families regarding inquiries and concerns related to a student’s residence hall or physical room within the residence halls. The individual will work with student representatives and groups including SGA (Student Government Association) and RHA (Residence Hall Association).

Provide high levels of customer service for students and families and advocate on their behalf with campus partners including but not limited to Facilities, Plant, Custodial and Fire Safety.

Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required. Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and successfully pass driving record background check before employment begins. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Master’s Degree Preferred. 2-4 administrative experience in an active, service oriented, diverse, professional office environment; higher education administrative experience preferred.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential. A keen understanding of database management, purchasing guidelines and procedures. Budget management and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are necessary. Exhibit good professional judgement, good computer skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Prior experience and knowledge of Banner and WebTMA is preferred. An established record of accomplishment promoting student development programs and cultivating positive relationships that cultivate comprehensive student-centered organization
