Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) has a reputation as one of the best two-year colleges in the state of Missouri.  With extraordinary faculty and staff, SCC serves a population of more than 30,000 credit and non-credit students annually. OVERVIEW OF POSITION

St. Charles Community College seeks a new Vice President for Student Services (VPSS) who demonstrates student-centered leadership, who embraces innovation, who values diversity, and who is a responsible risk-taker. Reporting directly to the President, the VPSS will provide vision, leadership, and supervision over all enrollment management functions, in addition to other related duties.

This executive-level position requires a professional who is passionate about the mission of the comprehensive community college. The VPSS should possess a secure sense of self to effectively delegate and empower others, while maintaining excellence and accountability. It is expected that this individual will have a broad understanding of critical topics in higher education and student affairs; be a champion of data-informed decision-making; understand and advocate for technology; and, possess strong interpersonal skills, including good listening skills and a good sense of humor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, organizes, and directs all activities associated with the position, including Admissions and Records, Registration, Counseling/Advising, Career Planning, Financial Aid, Scholarships. Veterans Services, International Support Services, A+ Program, and other related functions.
  • Develops and administers comprehensive enrollment plan that contributes to streamlined processes and increased enrollment and retention.
  • Oversees development and management of budgets; identifies opportunities for innovative strategies that contribute to efficiencies or generate revenue.
  • Provides supervision to and development of administrative and support staff.
  • Identifies and helps implement new technology needed to support operational functions and track student retention and success.
  • In collaboration with the academic vice president, coordinates Guided Pathways processes and procedures.
  • Identifies and implements best practices in student support services.
  • Collaborates with executive team to strengthen outreach to K-12 and higher education partners; builds successful partnership with key community members/organizations.
  • Maintains excellence in customer service for all areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and produces reports for internal and external entities; ensures compliance with accreditation and other regulatory requirements, including financial aid.
  • Provides direct support for employees, helping troubleshoot during peak times. Ensures a collaborative and transparent environment.
  • Serves as a member of President's Cabinet and other college committees as needed.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience providing student-centered vision and leadership within a higher education setting; knowledge of strategic planning and research needed to support student services.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Understanding and awareness of emerging technology that supports and/or transforms functions within student services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Guided Pathways.
  • Experience developing and/or delivering customer service training.
  • Awareness of external regulations related to support services such as financial aid and veterans administration.
  • Knowledge of best practices in the recruitment and retention of international students.
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of diverse student populations, including experience working with low-income, first-generation students.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire employees and knowledge of how to build cohesive and highly functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, along with the ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to work independently, to identify innovative strategies, to assess effectiveness, and to follow through on all assignments.
  • Ability to implement strategies that contribute to increased student retention and success.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or a related field.
  • At least four years of full-time supervisory/leadership experience in higher education.
  • A commitment to diversity and the mission of the comprehensive community college.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a doctorate from a regionally accredited institution with an emphasis in a field related to student services.
  • Five or more years of full-time, progressively responsible leadership of an academic or support services program.
  • Proven record of leadership that contributed to increased student enrollment, retention, and/or success.
  • Experience at the community college level.
