Job Description:

Learning Objectives:

Serves as a first tier financial aid representative to assist students with applying for financial aid programs, public benefits, and various financial resources available for eligible students enrolled in degree and certificate programs. Assists Student Financial Aid Advisor in performing outreach activities, such as Resource Fairs, Financial Aid Nights, Open House events; contacting students from the target group to arrange appointments for public benefit applications; discussing both financial aid application processes and public benefits procedures with students who access the benefit application online; and presenting Project Go!, financial literacy, and financial aid information at New Student Orientations, meetings, etc. to promote college-wide awareness. Peer Financial Coaches assist students in completing applications for public benefits during walk-in and scheduled appointments. Peer Financial Coaches also provide referrals for other needed resources on and off campus. Peer Financial Coaches may extend and maintain relationships with personnel from local agencies to maintain referral sources, on behalf of the Student Financial Aid Advisor. Peer Financial Coaches are expected to become adept at learning and understanding financial aid programs and public benefit options, which may be available to meet a wide range of student needs.


Qualifications:

  • GPA of 2.0
  • Consistently maintain 6 credit hours each semester;
  • Enrolled in a degree program: Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Finance, Financial Planning, Accounting, or related major
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress;
  • Adhere to college’s confidentiality policy;
  • successfully pass background/drug screening;
  • Above average skills in: Interacting with people; assisting with online applications, and researching information
  • Excellent skills in: Making students feel comfortable about discussing personal, private information
  • Ability to prioritize student service experiences
  • Will be certified as Ohio Benefit Bank Coach
  • Make at least a 2 semester commitment to the program
  • Other duties as assigned
