The Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) is a center within the Department of Psychology whose mission is to translate knowledge from basic neuroscience and apply it to improve well-being, promote resilience, and mitigate the effects of early adverse experiences. The CTN employs successive iterations of neuroscience research, theory building, and practice to drive the scientific knowledge base forward and promote evidence-based policy.
The Psychology department, located within the College of Arts and Sciences, is one of the largest departments supporting significant instructional and research activities in a wide range of fields within the discipline. The Department enrolls about 1,900 students per term, with approximately 300 undergraduate Psychology majors, and 80 doctoral students, and includes approximately 35 teaching faculty, emeriti faculty, research staff, graduate students and professional/administrative staff. The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct and assist in work related to the IDEAS Impact Framework, a science-based framework for program implementation and evaluation. The framework is co-located at the Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) at the University of Oregon, and the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University (CDCH). Under the direction of Dr. Philip Fisher, the postdoctoral scholar will act as a member of the UO-based consultation team to provide technical assistance to projects and CDCH staff involved in the initiative, with a focus on the ongoing work of the Measurement and Evaluation Hub and the Methodology Advisory committee. The postdoc will prepare and present summaries of analyses to a variety of audiences. The postdoc will assist and provide guidance to project team members on advanced data analysis. The postdoc will also serve as a facilitator and presenter at IDEAS workshops. The postdoc will assist with the management of team members. The postdoc will prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and participate in the preparation of funding proposals.
For the purpose of acquiring additional professional skills needed to pursue a career path in the chosen field, this position will have a formal mentor plan.
• PhD in Psychology, Education, Human Development or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience with acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting research data, and summarizing findings via written reports and oral presentations.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to function effectively as a team member and team leader as well as the ability to interpret and present information to a variety of audiences. Experience working in a team environment, requiring participatory decision-making and cooperative interactions among employees.
• Strong computer, statistical, and technical skills (SPSS, Qualtrics, Matlab, Python, R, SPM, FSL, AFNI, or similar platforms).
• Previous experience working with young children and families and/or previous experience working in community-based organizations.
• Previous management experience either during graduate training (e.g., managing a team of undergraduates) or during previous employment.
• Topical expertise in early adversity and preventive intervention including fast cycle learning.
• Strong record of publications (including first-author manuscripts) in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience in the planning, implementation, and tracking of a research project comprising multiple assessments
• Interest in supporting community-based research, including adapting research protocols for use in community settings and with diverse populations involving working closely to co-create intervention and evaluation protocol with community partners.
• Interest in fast cycle and shared learning with a large and diverse research and development community.
