We are seeking an outstanding instructor/scholar who is:

  • Knowledgeable about key issues in macro-level and/or mezzo-level social work practice with experience in community and systems-level, and/or social work practice that engages with neighborhoods, small groups and institutions
  • Knowledgeable about social policy, human services leadership, and macro-level sociology providing leadership in organizations, such as non-profit organizations to meet community needs
  • Passionate about her/his areas of expertise
  • Dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning and committed to innovative approaches to curriculum development and delivery, including student-centered, flipped classroom, outcomes-based pedagogy
  • Strong commitment to collaboration, interdisciplinary education, inter-professional practice and culturally responsive curricular practice
  • An original and creative thinker
  • Willing and able to contribute to program and departmental administration
  • Typical teaching load is 12 credits per semester

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in our Collaborative Health and Human Services (CHHS) program including the following: Introduction to social work, Ethics for Health and Human Services, Social Work Practice, Social Welfare Policy, Program Planning, Program Evaluation, and other courses in social welfare. Other shared courses may include major proseminar and senior capstone (Note: Additional intersession, graduate-level courses, and online teaching opportunities may be available.)
  • Providing leadership for Social Work minor degree program
  • Developing relationships with local and regional community leaders in the health and human services public and non-profit sectors for applied research projects in scholarship areas of importance in HHSPP Dept. including social welfare, public health, health systems, social services, social equity, and public-private collaboration
  • Collaborating with CHHS program colleagues for ongoing curriculum assessment and evolution of this interdisciplinary undergraduate health and human services curriculum
  • Participating with department colleagues in the development of future human services, public administration and public health programming (e.g., MPA, MPH, certificates, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in public administration, health care administration, nonprofit management, public health, public policy or related field from an accredited university and the requisite number of years teaching experience for the desired position rank by the time of appointment
  • Evidence of effective teaching in nonprofit management, health policy, public administration and/or related courses.
  • Evidence of professional experience and leadership skills in the nonprofit management sector at the local, regional, state or international level (must include experience with domestic, US-based organizations and programs).
  • Evidence of an applied research agenda and publication record (domestic US-focus)
  • Evidence of the ability to work with and mentor ethnically and culturally diverse students (esp. Hispanic/Latino students)
  • Commitment to excellence in professional degree programs that provide rigorous training and educational opportunities for students dedicated to social equity/change

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in social work, public health, social policy, public administration, or public safety
  • Successful community collaborative project development
  • Capable of and interested in contributing to program and departmental administration
  • Evaluation and reporting experience at the organizational, program, and/or project level
  • Experience with online curriculum delivery systems
  • Experience with community-based participatory research methods
  • Evidence of a track-record of external grant funding
  • Familiarity with “collective impact” model
  • Professional and leadership experience in macro and/or mezzo-level social work practice, policy development, and research
