The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks innovative, energetic, and accomplished candidates for the position of Director of the Carolina Covenant Program within the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. The Carolina Covenant is a unique combination scholarship and academic/personal support program which focuses on both access and student success. This program, along with other scholarship and aid programs, enable the University to enroll the best students from across North Carolina and beyond regardless of their family means. In addition to financial support, the program provides crucial academic and personal support services to approximately 2,500 Carolina Scholars. These support services are provided by administrative and academic staff and by over 70 faculty and staff mentors who work closely with Scholars to maximize their success in completing their undergraduate degree program.
Reporting to the Associate Provost of Scholarships and Student Aid, this leadership position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Covenant program other than the awarding of financial aid and scholarships. This includes overseeing the academic and personal support services provided to the Scholars, including the recruitment and training of mentors, the development of support programs and/or connection to existing campus programs and services, the academic counseling and support of individual Scholars, the monitoring of the Scholars’ academic progress and success, the evaluation and reporting of program results, relationship building and advocacy for the program and scholarship, and the structuring of academic intervention programs.
In addition to the Director, the Covenant staff includes two Academic Program Directors that are responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of academic support services provided to the Scholars, an Associate Director of Financial Aid, a part-time learning specialist, a faculty liaison, three work-study assistants and an administrative coordinator. In addition, over 70 staff and faculty members serve as mentors for the students.Educational Requirements
Post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and relevant experience in substitution.Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the position must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in higher education. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: A record of success in leading, educating, and training a large professional staff; Excellent communications and public relations skills; A thorough knowledge of financial aid programs; An uncompromising commitment to quality service and student advocacy; and Experience with the application of information technology to the financial aid process.
