Job Summary Requisition Number: 26337 Job Title: PLUMBER Working Title: Plumber Salary: $40.11 hourly Job Type: Career Department Name: 3415-MAINTENANCE AND ALTERATIONS Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: Under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Plumbing Shop/Maintenance and Alterations, perform the full range of journey level functions of a Plumber. Inspect, maintain, repair, design, modify, and alter campus infrastructure to include all buildings, common areas, equipment, and building systems and ensure the efficient operation of the campus. Assemble, install, and repair pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, copper or lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay and plastic. Assemble, install, and repair pipe fittings, valves and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems. Cut and thread pipes using pipe cutters and cutting torch. Install and repair plumbing fixtures. Operate, inspect and maintain tools of the plumbing trade. Perform finish plumbing and trim work. Read and interpret blueprints and develop layouts. Clean-up job site and assure good safety practices are observed on the job site and that tools and equipment are used with caution. Responsible for communicating job-related problems to appropriate supervisory levels in order to resolve on-site job concerns. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 3:00 pm Shift End: 11:30 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 25 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred 1) Demonstrated skill and experience in one or more of the following plumbing areas: domestic, industrial, commercial and/or process piping. Required 2) Thorough knowledge of the materials, equipment, methods and tools of the plumbing trade, including achievement of operational skills. Required 3) Ability to install various piping, plumbing fixtures and all related components. Required 4) Skill in conducting appropriate tests on water, air and natural gas lines; hydrostatic or air pressure and flow tests. Required 5) Ability to troubleshoot piping systems for signs of damage or deterioration or need for adjustment. Required 6) Ability to safely and skillfully operate various tools and equipment of the plumbing trade as well as oxyacetelyne torches, soldering equipment, mechanical
pipe threaders and cutters, hammers, and gas powered saws and grinders. Required 7) Ability to read, interpret and understand technical language in specifications, schematics and blueprints. Required 8) Skill in modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications. Required 9) Skill in estimating material and labor requirements to accomplish task. Required 10) Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing 4-digit numbers and fractions in order to calculate layouts and offsets, and provide accurate cost
calculations. Required 11) Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors and outside agencies. Required 12) Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. Required 13) Skill in writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that areaccurate and easy to comprehend. Required 14) Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Required 15) Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Required 16) Working knowledge of UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the function and ability to recognize discrepancies of ADA and Fire/Life/Safety codes at each job and report to supervisor. Required 17) Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year trade-related apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and education. Required 18) Must possess a valid City of Los Angeles or California State Journeyman Plumbing License. Required 19) Working knowledge of current Uniform Plumbing Code, N.F.P.A. 99, N.F.P.A. 13, N.F.P.A. 50 - Title 24 Code. Required 20) Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures. Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty, noisy, etc and ability to distinguish colors. Required 21) Must possess California Driver's License, Class C. Ability to drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties. Required 22) Ability to work overtime and weekends and ability to work various shifts. Required 23) Ability to work in confined spaces wearing full protective respirator equipment. Required 24) Working knowledge of asbestos removal. Can be trained 25) Possession of Certification of Medical Gas Piping and Medical Brazing and possession of Backflow Prevention Certification. Valid C36 license preferred.
