Job Summary Requisition Number: 27375 Job Title: ACCOUNTANT III Working Title: Accountant 3 Salary: $4,842 - $9,591 monthly Job Type: Career Department Name: 3515-EXTRAMURAL FUND MANAGEMENT Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: The Office of Extramural Fund Management (EFM) is a part of the Office of Research Administration (ORA) which supports the UCLA research program by providing leadership, professional guidance and administrative services to faculty, department administrators, and students. Under direct supervision of the Extramural Fund Management Supervisor, ensure financial stewardship of sponsored funds. Analyze and review expenditures, identify compliance policy violations, communicate concerns and issues to campus department personnel, facilitate resolution of outstanding issues, and prepare complex financial reports and invoices per university, sponsor and federal guidelines. Act as back up to the supervisor when the supervisor is not available. Will have signature authority to sign off on invoices and financial reports. Train team members and insure that appropriate system accesses are established. Review and validate the establishment of contract and grants in the award management and the University's financial systems, keep abreast of changing various agency regulatory requirements, and offer guidance to the campus research community surrounding financial management of contracts and grants. Ability to utilize UCLA mainframe systems, various local systems and perform queries. Preferred Demonstrated knowledge of University accounting, contracts and grants, payroll, purchasing, material and equipment management policies and procedures and ability to utilize campus systems and forms to process financial transactions. Preferred Demonstrated knowledge in analyzing and interpreting various agency guidelines, regulations, and requirements, and UC policies and procedures. Required Ability to analyze and interpret financial data in order to prepare and reconcile financial reports, ledgers, and accounting journals. Required Ability to adapt to changes as a result of automation and changing regulatory environment. Required Skill in writing clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence, analyses and financial reports. Required Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic way to optimize effective and efficient operations. Required Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and/or four to six years of experience in accounting/administrative analysis. Required Skill in analyzing information, practices, or procedures in order to identify trends and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and identify alternatives and their implications. Required Skill and experience in financial management practices, including a basic understanding of internal controls, sufficient to analyze transactions and activity to determine whether they comply with regulations, terms and conditions, and policies and procedures. Required Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing sponsored projects in the university environment. Required Ability to prepare complex contracts and grants financial statements and invoices. Required Ability to understand organization and department stated goals and objectives, and ability to monitor and evaluate performance against it.
