Job Summary Requisition Number: 28291 Job Title: PATIENT BILLER III Working Title: OMS Patient Medical/Coder-Biller Salary: $22.73 - $29.98 hourly Job Type: Career Department Name: 1350-DENTISTRY Department Website URL: https://www.dentistry.ucla.edu/ Job Summary Statement: Patient Medical/Coder-Biller reports directly to the Operations Clinic Manager of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. The primary function is Billing and Insurance Management which consists of billing medical and dental insurance companies for all oral surgery and maxillofacial surgery procedures; and must understand CDT and ICD-10 CM coding. Verify eligibility, benefits and inform patient if they have a share of cost or co-pay responsibility prior to procedure. Follow up on outstanding claims, schedule appointments, register patients and create and update patient records. Another area of responsibility is Front Office duties, confirm patient's appointments, and go over instructions with patient. Greet patients, provide information and answer front desk related questions. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 16 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Demonstrated knowledge of Oral Surgery terminology, procedures and surgeries. Required Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in dental front office procedures. Required Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, residents, faculty and patients. Required Demonstrated skill to handle multiple demands and frequent interruptions and maintain a professional demeanor. Required Demonstrated skill to organize work and determine priorities. Required Demonstrated organizational skill to enforce clinic policies by following established procedures. Required Spanish verbal skills to communicate with patients and translate for residents and faculty. Required Demonstrated skill to use basic math skills to screen patient accounts. Required Demonstrated skill to work as a team member. Required Demonstrated knowledge of what constitutes confidential information and skill in maintaining confidentiality with regard to sensitive patient, faculty, resident and staff information. Required Demonstrated experience in patient management, including patient advocacy and resolution of patient complaints regarding care, service and billing. Required Ability and willingness to dress professionally in business attire appropriate for position. Required Ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and changes in work assignments and to prioritize work in a complex, high-volume, fast-paced environment. Required Ability to recognize a situation when supervisor's consultation/assistance is appropriate and/or required. Required Working knowledge of medical and dental insurance benefits and procedure codes, CDT and ICD-10 CM especially for Oral Surgery procedures. Required Working knowledge of private medical and dental insurance benefits especially benefits for Oral Surgery procedures.
