Working Hours: WORKLOAD AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: This position is a 10-month, 176 day contract. The standard contractual work week for credit and noncredit classroom faculty is forty (40) hours. The standard instructional work week shall consist of thirty (30) hours of instructional time, class preparation and student evaluation (contact hours and preparation hours). The remaining time will consist of five (5) student hours (of which at least two (2) hours must be designated office hours), and five (5) institutional service hours. Noncredit faculty may substitute three (3) of the required five (5) weekly student hours for additional preparation hours. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. Adherence to all District policies and procedures is expected.

-- To qualify for this position, you must also meet minimum qualifications for a Credit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities instructor under Section 53414(d) (1) and (2) OR for a Noncredit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities instructor under Section 53414(e) (2), (3), or (4) of the California Code of Regulations, Title 5. OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT:
An offer of employment to the person selected for this position is contingent upon 1) successful completion of a pre-placement physical exam at district expense, 2) submission of a current tuberculosis clearance certificate, 3) proof of eligibility to work in the United States, 4) fingerprint clearance, and 5) approval by the Board of Trustees.

POSITION AVAILABLE:
MiraCosta College is seeking one full-time tenure track noncredit faculty member who is focused on both short-term vocational and adults with disabilities instruction. This is a combined position; qualified candidates must meet minimum qualifications in (1) Vocational (short-term): Noncredit and (2) Specialized Instruction (Disabled Student Programs and Services): Noncredit or Credit, according to the 2017 handbook of the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges. The successful candidate will share leadership roles with other full-time noncredit faculty members. This position will begin in August 2019.

Currently, noncredit short-term vocational and adults with disabilities courses are offered primarily at the MiraCosta College Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue in Oceanside; however, the individual selected for the position will be subject to assignment at any district facility during any hours of operation.

BACKGROUND:
MiraCosta students are diverse in age and represent all of California's major racial/ethnic groups. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Teach short-term vocational and adults with disabilities courses that are offered through MiraCosta's Continuing Education division. (E)

2. Work in collaboration with other full-time and associate faculty in coordinating and maintaining currency of curriculum. (E)

3. Assist in the creation, review, development and evaluation of courses both online and on-ground, certificates, and programs in collaboration with other instructors as appropriate. (E)

4. Provide discipline leadership and liaison with related credit faculty. (E)

5. Strong organizational and time management skills. (E)

6. Participate in institutional service, which includes college-wide committee work and collegial governance. (E)

7. Maintain currency in the profession and in applicable technologies.

8. Participate in the development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs). (E)

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

- meet the minimum qualifications for a Short-Term Noncredit Vocational instructor as set forth in Section 53412(j) (1), (2), or (3) of the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 [see below]; AND

- meet the minimum qualifications for a Noncredit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities instructor as set forth in Section 53414(e) (1), (2), (3), or (4) OR Credit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities instructor as set forth in Section 53414(d) (1) and (2) of the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 [see below]; AND

- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

>Short-Term Noncredit Vocational [Section 53412(j)]:

(1) A bachelor's degree; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught*; OR

(2) An associate degree; and six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught*; OR

(3) Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.

*Courses to be taught include Applied Computer Skills 1; Basic Word Processing; Intermediate Word Processing; Internet, Intermediate; Beginning Presentation Software; Computer Basics/Keyboarding; Beginning Spreadsheets; Introduction to Career Technical Education; Essential Computer Skills 1; Employability Skills; Job Readiness for Workplace Success; 10-Key; Office Skills; and Office Procedures.

>Noncredit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities [Section 53414(e)]:

(1) The minimum qualifications for providing credit specialized instruction for students with disabilities (see Credit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities [Section 53414(d)] below); OR

(2) A bachelor's degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities; OR

(3) An associate degree with one of the majors specified above; and four years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served; OR

(4) For noncredit vocational courses, an associate degree or certificate of training; and four years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category being served. >Credit Specialized Instruction for Students with Disabilities [Section 53414(d)]:

(1) Possession of a master's degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; AND

(2) Fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to:
a. Learning disabilities;
b. Developmental disabilities;
c. Deaf and hearing impaired;
d. Physical disabilities; or
e. Adapted computer technology.

>EQUIVALENCY

Desirable Qualifications:
1. A Master's degree in one of the Discipline categories identified in the 2017 handbook of the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges specific to this position. 2. Demonstrated success in teaching students from historically underrepresented groups, under prepared or nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with disabilities. 3. Experience collaborating with faculty or community leaders in programs or initiatives that are specifically designed to help historically underrepresented or adult students achieve their educational goals. 4. Demonstrated experience in the areas of professional and/or curriculum development. 5. A commitment to noncredit, adult post-secondary education. 6. Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps (see Student Equity website at http://www.miracosta.edu/studentservices/studentequity/index.html). 7. Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.

About MiraCosta College
