Position Description - The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Spanish and Hispanic Studies. All requirements for the Ph.D. in Spanish and Hispanic Studies, or comparable, must be completed prior to effective date of employment. Primary area of specialization should be 20th and 21st century Mexican literature and culture, with a secondary focus on Border Studies. An interest in media and visual studies is desirable, but not required. The successful candidate will join a group of faculty in the MLL department who have a strong commitment to research and teaching. S/he should be able to contribute significant scholarship to her/his field and teach a wide range of language, literature, and culture courses to undergraduates. S/he should have at least one year of teaching experience in US institutions at the college level, including graduate fellowships. Teaching load is two courses per semester. Faculty members in our department actively participate in interdisciplinary programs, such as Latin American and Latino Studies. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required. The campus also has 180 acres of playing fields and half of the campus is preserved as open space.
