Description

Whatcom Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Mathematics instructor beginning Fall Quarter 2019.  The College is seeking a dynamic individual interested in developing and engaging students, both inside and outside the classroom, using innovative and inclusive curriculum and teaching methods, including the application of technology. The College seeks faculty who have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, colleagues, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and global understanding.  College faculty teach an equivalent of 15 credits per quarter and contribute to the College through committee service and program leadership and development.
 
Responsibilities for this position include teaching developmental and advanced courses, as well as participating in college governance, committees, and discipline responsibilities. The individual should demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion, and utilize a variety of teaching strategies and evaluation techniques including lecture, online, collaborative, technological, active learning, or a combination of methods.

Qualifications, Salary and Appointment

 Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience using a student-centered approach to teaching and learning.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching mathematics courses at the calculus level and above.
  • Experience developing and implementing diverse instructional approaches using technology, service learning, or internships.
  • Experience in curriculum development and in assessing learning outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities with students and colleagues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Universal Design for Learning and accessibility; and experience using a learning management system, preferably Canvas.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience/interest in the appropriate use of technology in the teaching of mathematics.
  • Completion of graduate level mathematics coursework as preparation to teach at the calculus level and above.

Salary and Appointment:  

  • Current Master's degree salary begins at $52,371 (additional degrees and experience increase rate); 174 day annual contract.
