The College of Education and P-16 Integration at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Organization and School Leadership to begin appointment in fall 2019.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions
UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016

The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers master's programs in educational leadership; curriculum and instruction with specializations in digital literacy, elementary mathematics and science education, mathematics education, science education, and social studies education; school psychology; and counseling. We also offer Ed.Ds in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction with several specialization areas. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Further, the Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction, housed in the College of Education and P-16 Integration, was recently ranked 8th in the nation of “Best Online EdD & Ph.D Programs in Education” by gradsource.
The College of Education and P-16 Integration is seeking an innovative teacher, leader and scholar. The Assistant professor position requires teaching in various formats (face-to-face; hybrid; and fully online). The successful candidate will be expected to: a) teach and advise at the graduate level, b) serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and c) conduct, participate, and collaborate in P-16 research agendas in an emerging research institute.
Minimum Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate in School Leadership, School Administration, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience with educational leadership.
• Principal Certificate
• Experience or commitment to teach online classes
• Potential for scholarly research

• Experience as campus administrator/principal or central office administrator

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.
Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.
UT Brownsville and UT Pan American
The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
