Patrol (foot and vehicle) assigned area(s) to ensure personal safety of university community, and provide protection and security for university facilities; maintain orderly flow of traffic, investigate accidents, respond to complaints, disturbances, investigate, arrest and apprehend suspects, issue parking and moving citations, assist other law enforcement agencies, fire department and emergency medical technicians. Performs all work under the supervision of the Police Sergeant

Job Description    

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Patrol (foot and vehicle) assigned area(s) to ensure personal safety of the university community.

·         Provide protection and security for university facilities.

·         Maintain orderly flow of traffic, investigate accidents, and respond to complaints, disturbances and law investigations make arrests and apprehensions, issue parking and moving citations, assist other law enforcement agencies, fire department and emergency medical technicians.

·         Take initial police reports; conduct investigations, including security of crime scene, collection and preservation of evidence, maintain the chain of custody of evidence.

·         Crowd control during all types of catastrophes, which may affect the university community; traffic and security control during athletic and other special events as necessary.

·         Appearance and testimony in judicial proceedings as necessary.

·         Special assignments including surveillance and intelligence gathering as determined by crime trends and/or as directed by university officials.

·         Other duties assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Working knowledge of principles of proper grammar usage.

·         Working knowledge of radio codes and procedures.

·         Ability and skill in motor vehicle operation and other police equipment. Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations.

·         Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

·         Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications.

·         Ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision.

·         Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

·         Ability to investigate and obtain critical facts.

·         Ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately.

·         Ability to collect/evaluate data and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

·         Ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner.

·         Ability to work all shifts and holidays when required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have at least five (5) years of law enforcement experience. Must meet Florida statutory and Administrative Code requirements. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes. Must also have/pass: MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND DRUG SCREENING. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST (PAT). CURRENT FLORIDA POLICE CERTIFICATE AND FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE. COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK. NO FELONY CONVICTIONS. POLYGRAPH AND A PHYCHOLOGICAL REVIEW. ORAL REVIEW BOARD. BE OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER. HONORABLE DISCHARGE, IF A VETERAN. REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

Must possess a valid driver’s license. This position requires a criminal background check. This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations. NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:       This position is non-exempt.  The normal work schedule will be set upon hire.  Occasional overtime may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY:  $38,420 - $40,560, based upon prior law enforcement experience.
