Job Summary The Educational Specialist maintains cooperative relationships with high schools and community agencies in the target areas to identify, select, and serve participants.

Responsibilities Develops and implements innovative career, educational, individual, and group counseling programs for the programs during the academic year and summer components.

Plans and implements appropriate activities that will effectively and efficiently expedite program objectives for each of the program.

Develops and implements various workshops and educational modules to disseminate educational, financial aid, and career information.

Identifies, recruits, and provides services for economically and educationally disadvantaged high school students who desire to pursue a postsecondary education.

Provides counseling and information on college admission to qualified adults who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education.

Counsels participants on financial aid options and complete financial aid applications.

Provides test taking and study skill workshops to students.

Assist the director and coordinators with identifying, recruiting, screening, and selecting participants for Fulton County.

Assists the director and coordinators with developing individualized education plans for all Fulton County participants.

Plans and presents recruitment activities for potential participants and their parents.

Provides intake and initial needs assessments for program participants at each of the schools.

Assists with coordination of workshops, meetings, and special events.

Provides academic assistance—college prep curriculum, graduation requirements and course selection—to Fulton County participants.

Provides SAT/ACT Preparation sessions for eligible participants.

Conducts Financial Aid Workshops for participants and their parents.

Assists participants and parents with completing the FAFSA paperwork.

Submits a monthly report of student participation and other activities and/or services provided.

Plans and presents transition from middle to high school and from high school to college and yearly academic progress of participants.

Reviews mid-semester and end-of-semester progress on program participants.

Provides referrals for personal counseling of participants in family problems, as appropriate.

Performs college orientation activities.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications Bachelors degree is required for this position; Masters degree preferred. Minimum of three years of experience working in TRIO or in a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with first generation, low income students.
