Department Description:

The Writing Program at the University of San Diego recognizes that writing is vital to a broad- based, liberal arts education. Our goal is to welcome all members of the University into an on-going conversation about writing in the disciplines and across communities.

The program houses the USD Writing Center and supports writing courses offered across the University through workshops and consultations with faculty who are revising writing assignments, re-thinking learning outcomes, and developing the role writing plays in their courses.

The English Department offers a dynamic study of literature across historical periods, geographical boundaries and diverse political and social contexts.


Detailed Description:

The Department of English and the Writing Program at the University of San Diego invite applications for a Professor of Practice and Assistant Director of the Writing Program position. This full-time, non-tenure track Professor of Practice position will begin September 1, 2019. The position includes a competitive salary, benefits, and opportunity to work with experienced colleagues and mentors. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in writing program administration and writing program assessment, as well as experience teaching technical and professional writing, digital writing, or multilingual writing. Job Requirements:

Full-time Professor of Practice positions carry a 4/4 teaching load, but the faculty member in this position will have two courses of re-assigned time to allow time for administrative duties (effectively, a 3/3 teaching load). The successful candidate will show evidence of teaching excellence and a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive classroom, department, and campus community.

The position requires a master’s degree in composition/rhetoric or related field. Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in composition/rhetoric will be given priority consideration.
