The Department of Neurosciences and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego are committed to advance human health by applying engineering advances in the development of sensors, devices, and imaging tools. We invite applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant Professor) jointly appointed across the Departments of Neurosciences and Electrical and Computer Engineering. This initiative in precision medicine seeks to transform medicine through advances in omic-scale diagnosis, therapy, engineering and computer science, imaging and data integration that enable insights into brain function and neurological disorders.

 

Successful appointees will be expected to establish a vigorous program of high quality research, a commitment to excellence in teaching, a commitment to university service, and a commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion at the university. Successful applicants will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate students in the participating departments and establish a vigorous program of high-quality federally funded research that focuses on innovative approaches in one of the targeted areas. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • engineering, computer science and computational approaches to biological complexity and challenging biomedical problems;
  • integration of multi-omics data across multiple scales from molecule to organism for deciphering disease mechanisms and improving treatment;
  • soft-robotics and other engineering applications relevant to clinical and/or translational neurosciences;
  • next generation computational and engineering approaches to personalized medical diagnosis and treatment;
  • imaging and/or sensing mechanisms for applications in neurosciences and neurology;

 

Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD, or equivalent (or advancement to candidacy) in the area of interest. They must have expertise in engineering and computer science and an interest in medical imaging or medical devices/sensors, human physiology and pathology and related areas. Candidates must be involved in development of engineering sciences, methods and technology in omics and precision medicine and interested in working with the UCSD clinical and engineering community.

 

Leadership in national organizations is preferred.

The level of appointment and salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on UC pay schedules.
