Position Summary
Dominican University of California is seeking a dynamic candidate for a 12-month, full-time renewable term position as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for immediate appointment. Suitable candidate must have a minimum of three to five years of clinical experience and prior teaching experience (preferred). The successful candidate will manage and coordinate a vibrant occupational therapy fieldwork program and will employ creativity and strong interpersonal skill in developing field work sites. The position includes academic instruction as negotiated. All course materials have been fully developed, and mentoring is available for new faculty.
The occupational therapy department offers two academic tracks: a five-year BS/MS track and a three-year entry-level master's track. Our curriculum design emphasizes psychosocial aspects of occupation, community-focused practice, and wellness and health promotion. We are seeking individuals who are committed to promoting innovative, community-focused occupational therapy practice in a friendly, team-oriented department.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all level I and level II fieldwork experiences for OT students
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the on-site fieldwork educators and provides training and support to enhance their student programs
  • Initiate and complete new contracts and renewals with hospitals, clinics, schools and emerging practice sites
  • Consult with faculty regarding student placements in fieldwork
  • Monitors and guides academic performance and professional behavior of students and assesses students' readiness to ensure that they meet all criteria for participation in fieldwork education.
  • Ensure the maintenance of health records and background checks for students as needed
  • Develops, oversees and evaluates fieldwork education policies and procedures; makes recommendations for the development of and/or change in fieldwork education written policies in the OT Student Handbook.
  • Ensures implementation of and compliance with fieldwork accreditation standards as defined by the Council for Accreditation of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Participates in academic instruction in area of expertise, as negotiated with department chair.
  • Maintain office hours, supervision of Academic Fieldwork Associate, work-study students and provide academic advising
  • Participate in service to the department and attend and contribute to faculty meetings, conference calls and other professional development activities.

    Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in occupational therapy or related field (If master's degree is in a non-occupational therapy field, bachelor's degree must be in occupational therapy)
  • Minimum of three to five years clinical experience, and preferred experience with student supervision and/or education
  • Must be initially registered as an Occupational Therapist with the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy; hold current licensure or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of California; and maintain membership in both the Occupational Therapy Association of California and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Be well-organized and able to prioritize workloads
  • Must be willing to consent to a background check

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior college level teaching experience
  • Doctoral degree in occupational therapy (either post professional or entry-level) or related field.

    Additional Position Information
  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by March 15, 2019; however additional applications may be considered until the position is filled
  • Must be eligible for and obtain a California occupational therapy license
  • Must be willing to consent to a background check
