DepartmentGeneral Description of Class:

 

Under general supervision, operates a number of light and heavy duty vehicles; performs maintenance functions; moves furniture and equipment, leads and directs casual workers on specific project.

 

Typical Duties:

 

The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job.  They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated. 
   
a) drives and operates heavy trucks, vans, pick-ups and cars in making collections, or deliveries for the department;

b) moves furniture, heavy equipment, nitrogen tanks and dangerous goods, loads furniture and heavy equipment onto trucks and delivers to appropriate destinations in accordance with specific directions and regulations;

c) sets ups furniture and equipment for events as directed;

d) Operates variety of lifting devices;

e) on specific projects leads and directs casual service workers in performing assigned tasks;

f) may provide a customer with an estimate of work;

g) works on campus cleaning details; collects waste and recyclable materials;

h) maintain records of mileage and fuel used on vehicles;

i) may change tires, make simple adjustments and clean vehicles as directed;

j) performs standard routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; advises on equipment repairs;

k) operates snow  maintenance vehicles and equipment; and

l) other related duties as required.



Campus(Minimum Qualifications)

 

Education: 

Completion of grade twelve or equivalent.
 
Experience

Three years experience of related driving and moving experience.
 
Other

Possession of a Provincial Class "Z or DZ" driver's license or required to obtain Z license within the trial period, physical ability to perform required duties, ability to communicate effectively in English,  will be required to complete a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act training program and other appropriate training programs as may be required.
