Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, International Education Centre, the Student Development Officer, Intercultural Programs will advance the International Education Centre’s (IEC) mission, as an innovative, collaborative and globally significant leader in the internationalization of the student experience. The Student Development Officer, Intercultural Programs will assume primary responsibility for the development and delivery of intercultural learning and on-campus global fluency programs, ensuring initiatives reflect the programmatic cornerstones of peer mentorship, engagement, student learning & development. The Student Development Officer, Intercultural Programs will achieve this through the conception, implementation and delivery of multi-modal programs that support University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) students, utilizing student development theory, and the learning domains and competencies of the University of Toronto Co-Curricular Record (CCR). The Coordinator will play a critical role in developing, supporting and advancing the work of the IEC, in order to provide coordinated and meaningful support to international and globally-minded students at UTM.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Conducting detailed analysis of program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program
  • Directing the activities of casual staff


CampusEssential Qualifications:
  • University degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years related professional experience in Student Affairs & Services, with demonstrated experience utilizing equity theory, and/or critical race theory, at the post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large components of projects.
  • Financial management & budget experience.
  • Exceptional intercultural competency awareness; experience working with diverse communities & cultures and an understanding of anti-oppression and equity practices, are required.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Interpersonal and intercultural communications skills are essential.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills are required.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills necessary.
  • Excellent administrative skills, including word processing, data analysis, desktop publishing and experience with databases.
  • Proficiency in developing assessment tools, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Strong assessment (quantitative and qualitative) skills, including program evaluation and performance assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service and information communication standards of practice in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Thorough knowledge of the University’s procedures as they relate to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FIPPA) and management of confidential student information.
