Faculty Position (tenure-track) in Thermal-Fluid Sciences and Engineering

Job description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in the area of thermal-fluid sciences and engineering, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2019 or thereafter. The position will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, although appointment to Full Professor may be considered for candidate with an excellent track record in scholarship and education, recognition from the research community, and the promise of continued distinction.

Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. The site of the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment, the university is associated with 17 Nobel laureates. The Case School of Engineering actively promotes interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes primarily focused on materials, health care, and energy. The MAE department has a renowned history of scholarly activities that have pushed the frontiers of mechanical and aerospace engineering, from microgravity to robotics. In recent years, the faculty have successfully engaged in cutting-edge research across a broad spectrum of classical and emerging fields, including biologically inspired robots, biomechanics, additive and sustainable manufacturing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, energy storage, thermal system management, fire engineering, etc.

We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates a clear vision and plan to successfully establish fundamental and competitively funded research programs in areas including but not limited to fluid mechanics, thermal management for aero-structures and systems, wind energy, wind plant design and modeling, and other emerging areas with high scholarly impact. A doctorate in Mechanical, Aerospace or a closely related Science/Engineering field is required. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to the core undergraduate and graduate teaching missions of the department, and to engage in departmental, institutional, and professional service activities.
