The Studio Arts Program within the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at The George Washington University invites applications for a full-time, renewable contract (3-year appointments), Assistant Professor of Photojournalism. The appointment begins as early as August 1, 2019.

The successful candidate will teach within the Bachelor of Fine Arts foundations, photojournalism, and fine art photography areas and the New Media Photojournalism Master of Arts program of the Corcoran. Additionally, the candidate will pay a leading role in developing and implementing the corresponding curricula. Together with key faculty, the successful candidate for this position will further develop and implement new course content and represent the program to internal and external constituents.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the undergraduate and graduate photojournalism programs, including foundations. The individual will demonstrate commitment to a creative practice that connects photojournalism and fine art photography. The individual will develop a creative research agenda consistent with Corcoran and CCAS criteria that incorporates research, teaching, and service. Curriculum and program development and assessment will be expected in collaboration with fellow faculty. The individual will take on university and departmental service, student advising, and community service/engagement, as well as developing collaborations and/or partnerships with faculty across the Corcoran and the broader GWU community, and engagement with the D.C. community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have the following: a degree in Photojournalism, Photography or related disciplines; a nationally established and active professional photojournalism career; a fine art photography practice and exhibition record (or equivalent); at least two years of successful university-level teaching experience (or equivalent) beyond the teaching assistantship level; broad based expertise in contemporary issues and practices in contemporary photojournalism and fine arts photography; knowledge of technologies relative to traditional and multimedia photojournalism and photography, instruction, and administrative tasks; excellent writing and communication skills.
