Adult Basic Education - IBEST Professor, Full-Time Tenure Track
This recruitment is for a full-time tenure track position.
The basic assignment is 177 contract days with a salary of $54,378. The effective date of employment will be September 16, 2019.
South Puget Sound Community College seeks candidates for the 2019-20 academic year to fill a full-time, tenure track position in Adult Basic Education - IBEST. Successful candidates will possess the interest, skills and abilities to help college teams lead the state in innovative and collaborative learning experiences designed to optimize student success.
The Adult Basic Education - IBEST Professor will:

Faculty members will work with other faculty, staff, and administrators to:
- Create and facilitate contextualized and integrated learning experiences in the areas of Adult Basic Education in relation to identified college pathways that are linked to career goals. Adult Basic Education instructional areas include but are not limited to Language Arts, Mathematics, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and/or High School Completion for native and non-native speakers of English.
- Create authentic assessments of students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in Language Arts, Mathematics, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and/or High School Completion for native and non-native speakers of English that measure course, program, and college wide outcomes.
- Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive and kinesthetic domains of learning.
- Provide online, hybrid, e-Learning enhanced courses, and/or team-teach in professional technical and/or transfer IBEST course sequences.
- Establish rapport with students who have a history of academic difficulties and motivate such students to develop academic skills.
- Implement appropriate state and federal Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) student data collection and documentation and submit them in a timely manner as required including WABERS+ data and NRS approved testing policies and procedures.
- Use local, state, and national data and analytics to continuously improve strategies for student access and success.
- Advise students regarding academic pathways and the courses needed to reach each student's academic goals.
- Use a wide range of learning resources, tools and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education.
- Serve on committees that support the shared governance of the college.
- Master's degree or graduate certificate in Education, Adult Education, Post-Secondary Literacy, Developmental Studies, Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages,
- Closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience teaching adult learners.
- Experience teaching basic Mathematics.
- Demonstrated experience designing curriculum.
- Experience in team-based instructional approaches including Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (IBEST).
- Demonstrated understanding and implementation of contextualized and/or integrated learning.
- Evidence of innovative and diverse teaching methods, and technologies, to support teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in department, division, and college wide committees.
- Experience in the academic advising of students, with knowledge of college or career transitions.
- Experience working collaboratively to promote student success.
- Interest in professional development as an educator and a scholar.
- Knowledge and experience working with learning outcomes.
- Knowledge and experience working with Learning Management Systems.
