(Job #18-87) Accounting Technician II, Student Club Financial Coordinator, $3,010-5,290/month.
Appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a temporary, full-time, benefited, 12-month, non-exempt position in the Student Financial Services Department.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Student Financial Services Manger, the Student Club Financial Coordinator performs duties that support routine, responsible accounting activities for the university. The Student Financial Services Office serves students, staff, faculty, campus departments, and the general public, providing support and oversight to student clubs or organizations engaged in activities that include: fundraising activities, food sales, guest lecturers, dances, club travel, purchasing, cash handling, merchandise inventory controls, and reimbursements to club members.

Duties:
This position is responsible for reviewing and processing all club purchases, reimbursements, sales, deposits, and maintaining accounting ledgers for all club financial activity. The Coordinator directly supports student organizations by assisting clubs in planning fundraising events while adhering to HSU Clubs and Activities Handbook. The Coordinator provides students organizations with hands-on training in the areas of cash handling, accounting, and best business practices. The schedule is typically Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, but this position will be required to work some special events outside the normal business hours including some nights or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities listed below.

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
Knowledge:
  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, web browers, query tools, integrated financial systems and ability to create and maintain complex spreadsheets

    Ability to:
  • Apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems
  • Analyze and interpret accounting data - reviewing data for accuracy, completeness, validity and adherence to established standards and best business practices
  • Identify, trace, and correct errors
  • Apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems
  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid
  • Work independently
  • Make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities.
  • Review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds
  • Exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others
  • Compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately
  • Maintain files and records
  • Follow directions
  • Interpret and apply written rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships across a diverse population, and with a range of campus constituents.
  • Ability to work in a high pace open-air office setting.
  • Ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using PeopleSoft
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language ability
  • Experience in public speaking and the ability to organize and present financial training to large student groups
