Communications Manager- Institute Diversity
Job Purpose: Plan, develop and implement communications and promotional strategies and programs that optimize the visibility of a college, school or department. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.
- Develop ideas and concepts for publication.
- Write articles and newsletters, produce graphics and fact sheets; manage web pages.
- Direct promotional events and special projects.
- Attend workshops, events, lectures, etc. relating to the communications field.
- May assist with promotion of fundraising efforts.
- May manage the communications budget.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Work Experience: Five to seven years job related experience

- Skills: This job requires professional level writing and editing skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and time management ability. Use of office and specialized computer applications is required.
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: •Preferred Education: Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field
•Preferred Work Experience: Three or more years of supervisory experience in a professional setting. Demonstrated leadership in the planning and execution of a communications strategy supporting a change management initiative.
Strong analytical skills and ability to draw meaningful conclusions and recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative data. The ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of stakeholders. Familiarity with web development and authoring tools, including content management systems.
Experience with creating and managing content for websites and social media properties.

•Preferred Skills: Superior written and verbal communications skills.
Exemplary time management skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and communicate it to diverse audiences.

Department Description This position reports to the Vice President for Institute Diversity within Georgia Tech Institute Communications. This role supports the activities of, and will be embedded within, Tech's Office of Institute Diversity.
The Office of the Vice President for Institute Diversity (VPID) provides intellectual leadership and strategic direction for the infusion of diversity and equity throughout all aspects of teaching, learning, research, service, and outreach central to the Institute’s mission. Serving as a focal point for faculty, staff and student diversity and equity issues across the Institute, the VPID leads efforts to enhance diversification, develops cross-institute initiatives, coordinates programs and activities across academic and other units, provides advisement on policy and directions, and builds partnerships between the Institute and the broader community.
Specific tasks related to major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Communications Manager will partner with the VP of Institute Diversity to drive the Institute’s strategy and key diversity, equity and inclusion messages. S/he is responsible for development and implementation of targeted communications to build and sustain awareness and engagement in the myriad ways Georgia Tech is leading the way in these important conversations.
