About The American University in Cairo:

Job Description:

The Graphic Design Program, Arts Department, at the American University in Cairo is seeking applications for Associate/Professor of Practice in Graphic Design, with appointment to begin Fall 2019.

The successful applicant will be required to teach 6 courses per academic year (3 courses per semester) in practical/technical and conceptual undergraduate courses in Graphic Design with a focus on foundation level courses, as well as in special topics within the applicant's expertise. The position also carries supervising/administrative responsibilities at the department, school, and university levels. The initial appointment is for a five-year term subject to review in the fourth year of appointment.


Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a distinctive vision and pedagogical approach, and will be prepared to teach Design as a vital experience for a range of disciplines.

Applicants should have a minimum of a Master's degree in an appropriately relevant field, evidence of teaching at a university level, and a strong record of creative work as well as ongoing professional achievement.

The candidate should reflect the ability to promote multidisciplinary foundation studio - experimentation for first-year students across an array of media and processes, as well as broad training that includes strong foundations in typography, aesthetics, and conceptual development applied across media. The candidate should be able to guide students' exploration and organization of visual elements in order to realize projects within a design oriented framework.

An ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years university teaching experience. Applicants should display evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will teach and supervise foundation levels of design every academic year. Applicants should also have thorough knowledge in design history, theory, and practice.
