Overview

The Provost's Office at Princeton University seeks an Assistant Director for International Affairs and Operations to support its international affairs and operations portfolio for the next six months.



Reporting to the acting Vice Provost for International Affairs and Operations (VPIAO), the Assistant Director will support efforts to advance international travel safety and security, support priority projects for the Mpala Research Centre (MRC) in Laikipia, Kenya, and enable international research and teaching by faculty members and students. The position will also work closely with the Associate Director for International Travel Safety and Security, the Associate Director for International Affairs and Operations, and the Executive Director of MRC.

Responsibilities

Travel Safety and Security: Working closely with the Vice Provost, the Assistant Director will support initiatives that increase the safety and security of Princeton students, faculty, and staff travelling abroad. This will include the development of a new administrative unit to manage such efforts as well as provide occasional back-up support to the Associate Director for International Travel Safety and Security.



Administrative Processes: The Assistant Director will support special projects for the Vice Provost including efforts to codify processes, streamline workflow, and improve internal communications. One project will focus on streamlining the process by which departmental and institutional memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with other universities are vetted and approved.



MRC: Working with the Vice Provost and the MRC Executive Director, the Assistant Director will support projects to mark the 25 th anniversary of MRC in 2019 including fund-raising and engagement efforts. The Assistant Director will also support communications efforts to raise the visibility of MRC.



Faculty and Student Enablement: The Office of the VPIAO oversees several funds to encourage internationally-engaged faculty research and teaching. The Assistant Director will support the transition of the grants management process to an electronic platform for the 2019-2020 cycle. In addition, the individual will work with the Associate Director for International Affairs and Operations to support the procurement of visas for outbound Princeton travelers and provide administrative support for the International Student Internship Program.



This is a full-time, six-month term position that may be extended upon mutual agreement of the Assistant Director and the Provost's Office.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in a relevant setting working with senior management, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Experience with emergency preparedness/crisis management, fund-raising, communications, and/or information technology systems.
  • Capacity for project management and the ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines. Proven ability to complete assignments on time with great attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively, especially in writing.
  • Excellent judgement, flexibility, organizational skills, ability to work independently, and a sense of humor.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
  • Experience traveling abroad, including to developing countries or challenging environments.
  • Occasional travel and work on evenings and weekends may be needed.



The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.
