The focus of the Campbell lab is to develop and apply novel genomic methods to characterize a variety of biological systems and diseases. Areas of focus include lung cancer initiation and progression, prostate cancer health disparities, the biological response to exposures, and lung development. Joshua D. Campbell is an assistant professor in the Division of Computational Biomedicine in the Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and an affiliate member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

The lab is specifically looking for a post-doctoral fellow with a strong experimental background to implement and apply novel single-cell sequencing and imaging methodologies to characterize cellular heterogeneity in lung and prostate cancer. These methodologies include single cell RNA-seq, single nucleus sequencing, highly multiplexed RNA in-situ assays, and multiplexed immunofluorescence. Projects related to genomic characterization of lung premalignant lesions in the “Pre-Cancer Genome Atlas” consortium funded by Stand Up 2 Cancer (SU2C) and the NCI PreCancer Atlas Initiative. Previous experience with molecular genomic assays and/or imaging is preferred.

We work closely with other labs in the section of Computational Biomedicine at BUMC that have a wide range of expertise in areas such as clinical medicine, computational biology, and functional genomics. We also maintain strong relationships around the greater Boston area including labs at the Broad Institute, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Harvard Medical School. You will have the opportunity to work with people from within BU and from these other institutions to expand your academic network. Training in grant writing will be provided by faculty and university-sponsored workshops. Independent fellowships will also be encouraged.

Required Skills
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in molecular and cellular biology or related field within the past 5 years
  • Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English are required
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required
