Job Details
The Pulmonary Center at Boston University Medical Campus is recruiting post-doctoral research fellows to participate in NIH funded research. The Chen Lab focuses on the role of retinoic acid (RA), the bioactive metabolite of vitamin A, in lung development, health, and disease. Projects include: 1) regulation of airway smooth muscle phenotype by RA, 2) airway smooth muscle heterogeneity in healthy and diseased lungs, 3) effect of inhaled, isotype-selective RA receptor agonists and antagonists on lung mechanics, 4) RA signaling and the maturation of embryonic airway epithelium, and 5) molecular and cellular mechanisms by which RA deficiency induces airway squamous metaplasia. These projects involve a broad spectrum of molecular and cell biology approaches including cell, 3D organoid, and tissue cultures, multiplex in situ localization of RNA and protein, cell sorting by flow cytometry, whole-lung, tissue, and cell physiological measurement, and massively parallel sequencing.
Required SkillsSuccessful candidates will have a strong background in molecular and cell biology. Prior experience with mouse models is helpful. The position offers both independent and collaborative research opportunities and participation in grant and manuscript writing. US citizenship, a permanent or temporary work visa is required for this T32-supported position. Salary compensation is per NIH guidelines and is commensurate with years of post-graduate experience. This position includes full-time benefits.
