Now, our Alumni Engagement team is looking for a Communications Coordinator who will increase alumni engagement through varied marketing channels.

Alumni Engagement at Boston University

The Alumni Engagement team is dedicated to understanding alumni, strengthening pride and awareness, and facilitating ways to grow and sustain the base of alumni engaging with and supporting Boston University. The team has oversight of alumni digital strategy, alumni experience operations, and measuring engagement—through both attitudinal and behavioral dimensions—of more than 350,000 alumni across the globe. This team works in close collaboration with colleagues in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, and across departments and schools at Boston University.

Communications Coordinator

Working as part of a growing team, the Communications Coordinator provides technical support, customer service, and marketing for alumni relations and select development initiatives. The incumbent will build new websites and add content to existing sites following specified formatting and design criteria. Additionally, this position will create and manage opportunities for online engagement of BU alumni. The Communications Coordinator will work with the Director of Strategic Alumni Engagement, the Associate Director of Online Engagement (IS), other Marketing and Communications colleagues, and Development and Alumni Relations staff members to ensure timely updates and on-going maintenance of websites and email communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Implement strategies to engage alumni with the university and each other using web-based tools (primarily email and WordPress), both in-house and third-party applications. Must use marketing analytics to measure ROI and stay abreast of cutting-edge practices on the use of email and web in alumni relations.
  • Technical: Produce high quality Web and email content for a variety of BU Websites and create new Websites as needed. This requires learning new programs such as Photoshop, html 5, Google Analytics, etc. Working with external technical staff, as appropriate.
  • Marketing/Customer Service: Follow policies and guidelines for alumni websites and e-mail marketing to alumni. Work with Alumni Relations partners and BU Marketing and Communication department to manage a marketing plan for online engagement of alumni. Assist with customer support for all products as defined in summary above.
  • Administrative/Planning Assistance: Participate as needed in meetings and discussions with University Information Services staff, Development & Alumni Relations staff (including those in the schools and colleges), Marketing & Communication, and alumni volunteer leaders to plan new services, improve existing services, and evaluate effectiveness of entire program. Provide basic administrative support including managing information about services and keeping records related to usage, alumni surveys, and other indicators.
Required Skills

A cover letter is required for consideration.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One to three years of related experience
  • Previous experience using WordPress is a plus
  • Ability to collaboratively engage with colleagues across the University
  • An awareness of emerging technologies in the digital space
  • Familiarity with email marketing software
  • Experience with analytics is a plus
